Why GMH About

Why Gardens Mental Health?

We can help with

Depression

Clinical depression is more than just emotions- it often involves a set of symptoms that may indicate a chemical imbalance in the brain. Counseling is the first step, but medications are sometimes needed to fully address long-term issues. Lack of energy, fatigue, and poor motivation are some of the common features.

Bipolar

Bipolar disorder involves recurrent mood swings, often with overriding depression. Other symptoms such as insomnia, impulsivity, and anger issues undermine a person's ability to live a full and happy life. At times, moods improve mysteriously and the motivation to get help fades into busyness and distractions, but eventually returns to depression again. Don't be fooled by severe Bipolar portrayed in the movies, it's common and often misdiagnosed.

Anxiety

Anxiety symptoms vary across individuals, but include both psychological and physical reactions to the anticipation of threats or unknown outcomes.

Some people can have severe anxiety that results in panic attacks. Whatever anxiety you have, it is treatable. In fact, untreated anxiety often leads to depression.

Schizophrenia

Although uncommon, this disorder usually  disarms a person from the ability to maintain a career if left untreated. It doesn't generally appear until teenage or adulthood. It unfairly alienates people from family and friends, making them feel alone and isolated. There are many newer treatments for it, and patients can live a fuller life when they follow a plan including medications and therapy.

Insomnia

Insomnia is often untreated or undertreated, and is a serious problem for 10-20% of adults. When poor sleep lasts longer than 90 days, it needs attention because it makes your "awake time" less productive and not enjoyable.

Trauma/Loss/PTSD

Stress felt after trauma and loss has both mental and physical impacts. If you've been a victim  of hurt or loss, we have a safe place for you to reach out for help. Asking for help isn't admitting failure or weakness, but rather it is your important first step to gaining control over your future happiness and joy.
